Now this is a song I'm sure you've heard a million times, but I think it holds up really well. It's like a precursor to Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas," (which, yes, it's been played to death, but I still love it for its relentless peppy optimism in the face of almost certain holiday disappointment).
Anyway, here's Darlene Love's "Christmas" ("Baby Please Come Home") to start your day off right.
Well, I have never heard it before. What a powerful voice! And I love the retro vibe. It's a great song!
ReplyDeleteI may be wrong, but i feel like we don't have such beautiful Christmas traditions in my country. Ans that really sucks.
This one is kind of a modern classic. I do love holiday music! From the old hymns to the "modern" classics. :-D
DeleteLove this song!
ReplyDeleteIt's like an instant mood boost.
DeleteThank you for posting this Christmas classic, Josh. Darlene Love was one of the great voices of the '60s. At that time, she never received the recognition she deserved due to being screwed over by Phil Specter. Today, her contribution to music history is more fully recognized. *stepping down off my soapbox now* Your love of so many things "vintage" is truly appreciated. Thanks again. Take care. <3
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more, Susan! <3
DeleteThis is also a very pretty song. What a voice!
ReplyDeleteRight. That's how you belt a song.
DeleteI remember this one well but I don’t think I’ve heard it in a long time. So long, it never occurred to me how well it complements “All I Want for Christmas is You” but now I can’t imagine why not!
ReplyDelete:-D It has a similar energy for sure!
DeleteRight as I opened this advent day, the jazzy O Tanenbaum by the Vince Giraldi Trio came on from my Christmas playlist.. Very Charlie Brown-schroeder coolness. Once that is done, I will play this song! Thanks Josh!
