Advent Calendar Day 30

Wow! We are fast approaching the end of 2017. Not my best year, I must admit. Professionally, I struggled to produce. A LOT. By which I mean I struggled a lot to produce a little. Physically...ouch. Personally, thank God everything is still on an even keel. Philosophically, also struggling. A LOT. But I'm by nature optimistic and I'm counting on 2018 to be a better year in every way.

I'm a planner. I make lists. I outline. I journal. Like the explorers of old, I believe the best way to reach your destination is to chart your course. Of course, you can't plan for everything. Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition. Or a grizzly bear attack. Or falling in love. Things happen. That's part of joy--and terror--of life.

"The unexamined life is not worth living."
Socrates

Anyway, I'm one hundred percent in favor of, at the very least, keeping track of things, and to that end I'm giving away three very pretty journals from Peter Pauper Press. I'll randomly select three commenters to receive one of these lovely journals.

Give me three good reasons to look forward to 2018. And IT'S NOT 2017 cannot be one of the reasons. ;-)

I wish you all a 2018 where you can say with certainty, This was my best year yet. :-)

  1. "The past is a different country, they do things differently there", the future allows us to change, to do things better based on our past experiences (hopefully). So plan for a great 2018. _ Neil Atkinson

  2. We are thinking of moving to Florida and away from this cold. So that is one reason. My daughter is joining us - that is number two and finally I will get to see my 6 month old grandson grow up - reason number three. I also want to see how my other daughter in the Peace Corps does in her efforts to join the State Department.

  4. I do not plan. I do not journal.
I enjoy sunshine and flowers, and to do that, I merely need to look around.
What do you have to look forward to? Well, I have already started thinking about next year's Mr. Pinkerton Adventures. That should be enough for anyone.
A journal would most definitely be wasted on me. It is pretty, though.

  5. Cure for my health condition, continuous strength & eventually...happiness. I've been through a lot these past few years. And to say that I'm mentally, emotionally & physically exhausted is an understatement. I wish that I could finally move forward with my life if I can't go back to how everything had used to be. Like Mr. Pinkerton here, I don't journal too. It's lovely, though.

  7. I have a reminder in my car that says If you change nothing, nothing changes. I made a lot of changes towards the end of 2017; I retired from my old job after 28 years, started a new job and made changes that will see me healthier in the new year. I am looking forward to seeing where these changes take me in 2018.

  13. 1. Another year of opportunities to spend time with friends and family - to hold them close, love them, and let them love me in return. To make memories, small ones that blur together over the years and just glow as love and laughter, and more important memories that form the family stories as years pass.
    2. New professional opportunities - I just lost my job of 7 years and I am excited to change careers, find a new direction, challenge myself.
