Sort of. Kind of.
It's live on Amazon. I'm leaving it at the $4.99 preorder price for one week.
So that's the good news.
Unfortunately, for the first time Smashwords was unable to release early when requested. That's beyond frustrating and the result is I won't be doing my Kobo or B&N preorders through Smashwords. In all honesty, I shouldn't be going through Smashwords for Kobo and B&N anyway, but it's easier and sometimes I just get lazy.
So ironically, if you preordered, you're getting the book after everyone else. Which is... not that funny really. But it's a holiday weekend, so a lot of you wouldn't have time to ready anyway, right?
Worst case scenario is the book will be live on Monday, which is still better than the 9th of April.
Originally, I was going to do a trilogy like the All's Fair series, but I really, really enjoy writing Sam and Jason --and people really seem to enjoy reading them. So the series does not end with book three, as you will see when you read the last chapter. ;-)
So it's a midpoint book and the various story arcs reflect that. Which is all I want to say because SPOILERS. I will say it's very much a relationship book.
YES, IT IS A KISSING BOOK. I admit it. But plenty of people die too!
Anyway, there you have it.
Abracadabra, Alakazam, and Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo!
Hot damn! 😍 I'm in like Flynn! I'm so excited I could spit! But, I won't as I'm a lady... Most of the time...
ReplyDeleteBut, I'm rambling! Thank you Josh! I'm really excited to start reading it - I've already bought it. 😊 Merci beaucoup! 👍 😄
Aww. Thank you! I hope you enjoy it. ;-D
DeleteWell.
DeleteWhat can I say, but...I LOVED IT! I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it - the only thing I found difficult was coming to the end, because I devoured it in almost one sitting, and now I must wait (note: patiently with impatience... ;-)) until 2019 to see these two lovely men again! WAIL! I'll just have to reread it, and your previous works. :-D
But... I ramble once more - thank you so much for all your hard work (your words seem so effortless, but I know how hard you work to bring us such enjoyment) - it was a great pleasure to read it, and I look forward to reading more from you. But! Remember to take it easy, and to look after yourself at the same time. :-)
Merci beaucoup! :-D
Will you continue to sell books via Smashword or Google Play (EPUB)? I prefer to buy books from other sources than Amazon. My ereader is not a Kindle so I need to find other sources. I pre-ordered Murder Takes the High Road from Google P. and can't wait to read it :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't yet set up Google Play, but the book is available on Kobo and maybe even B&N by now. I'll continue to use Smashwords for iBooks yes.
DeleteI’m so excited about this! Reserved my whole Sunday to read it but it’s not available on iBooks yet :( any idea when it will go up?
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately Smashwords declined to release the book early through channels like iBooks, so contact me back channel and if I see it before I leave today, I'll just send you the book directly.
DeleteHOMG, just finished it...so so soo good! LOVED it (mmm so much relationship stuff, and wonderfully done, and some very nice hurt/comfort bits as well, you always do those so beautifully ^^).
ReplyDeleteSo very happy to hear it's gonna be more than three books...but...but GAAAAH having to wait until next year, with that ending *whimpers* You're evol and I LOVE it! XD
LOL Thank you. <3 :-D
DeleteHOMG, just finished it and LOVED it! (it really is so wonderfully relationshippy as you mentioned, and also has some oh so beautiful hurt/comfort bits, which you always do perfectly)
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear this is going to be longer than a trilogy but GAH to having to wait till next year for the next one, especially with how this one ended! *whimpers* You're evol and I love it! XD
(also apologies if you get this comment twice...the internet seemed to eat my first go at it, but...who really knows when it comes to the internet gods? :-p)
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! :-) I'm pretty happy with how it all turned out--so much so that it's hard letting go and moving onto the next book.
Delete"Yay!" to the kissing book with plenty of dead people. :-D And Happy Release Weekend, dear Josh!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love, love, LOVE the book trailer: "FBI Agents Sam Kennedy & Jason West face their most challenging case yet... EACH OTHER." Yes! YES!!! :-)
hahahahhaha For some reason that tag line seemed so funny to me. BUT PERFECT.
DeleteMidpoint book sounds wonderful to me. I love Sam and Jason, and I'm prepared to leave them yet.
ReplyDeleteLOL SAME HERE. ;-)
DeleteNot the last one? I'm thrilled! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteGoge
Nope. Not even close. ;-)
DeleteAfter waiting and waiting...I got distracted and didn't get my Kindle copy until today (squirrel!). I was already sad that it was the end of the "trilogy," so great news that there will be more. Happy Easter to you/happy reading to us!
ReplyDelete:-D No way was I ready to let these two go!
DeleteIt was so good! Hurry and release the next one! ;-) Thank you for another great read.
DeleteLoved it! Happy Easter to you!
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a lovely Easter!
DeleteThis is an Easter Egg! No chocolate but good news! I'm so happy!
ReplyDeleteAnd NOW I want chocolate!
DeleteThe book was fabulous; totally exceeded my expectations! Would like to comment more about it but will wait until more people have read it – don’t want to spoil anything.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad! <3 I'm pretty happy with the way this series is unfolding.
DeleteIs kindle.com a different release date to kindle.co.uk, mine is still saying 23rd April pre order?
ReplyDeleteIgnore that I'm looking and the wrong pre order Josh Lanyon book!
ReplyDeleteIt's unusual for me to have two new releases in a month, I know! :-D
DeleteSince it came out on Amazon first, I just canceled my Kobo preorder and bought it on Amazon.
ReplyDeleteI loved it! I don't know how I'm going to wait until Winter 2019 for the next book, though, seeing as how I couldn't even wait a few days for my preorder to come through.
LOL It might be a very long summer!
DeleteThe ending! The ending! I can't believe we have to wait a year. Might I suggest a chapter 1 Patreon teaser in the interim? :)
ReplyDeleteWell, that seems VERY likely. :-)
DeleteAn early release AND more books with this amazing pairing? What a great way to start the month! Reading this was such a treat, and I can't wait to dive even further into Sam and Jason's relationship. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThe more I started thinking about it, the more I knew I didn't want to end at a trilogy.
DeleteI was gonna start with The Mermaid Murders: The Art of Murder, Book 1, but the Kindle version is currently not available on Amazon while Book 2 and 3 are available. Why?? Is it gonna come back up?? I really want to read the series in order.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.amazon.com/Mermaid-Murders-Art-Murder-Book-ebook/dp/B018UJ80EA/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
DeleteIt seems to be there!
DeleteThanks for your reply. It's available on paperback & on Audiobook but the Kindle edition is nowhere to be seen...strange. I'll go ask Amazon (actually Amazon Jp. where I do my shopping). Thanks again!!
ReplyDeleteThat is quite weird. Coincidentally, I just signed the contract for the Japanese translation, so... odder yet.
DeleteI'll be interested to hear what you find out!

ReplyDeleteI pre-ordered from Barnes and Noble and the website was telling me that I had to wait until April 16th to get the book...despite the fact that I could literally buy it from their website RIGHT AT THAT MOMENT and read it. Too funny. I made them process a refund so I could buy it now! #more than one way to skin a cat....
ReplyDeleteApril 16????
DeleteI don't even know where that date would come from. That was never a release date.
I've just got a reply from Amazon jp. concerning The Mermaid Murders. They said that the content was currently unavailable on Amazon but they were considering making it available although the date is still undecided. Volume I & II have been up there but the first one has vanished...very odd indeed.
ReplyDeleteThat is even more confusing. There is no reason why the content should be unavailable.
DeleteI'm sending Amaon jp. another e-mail telling them it's not just poor service on their part but it simply makes no sense to render only Volume I unavailable on kindle while Volume II & III are clearly available. But it's not just Amazon jp, the kindle edition of Volume I is missing on Amazon US, too.
ReplyDelete'I want the one I can't have' by the Smiths is playing in my head. Strange psychology. I'm like, I shall get it no matter what!! Well I will wait and see.
LOL
DeleteJust to let you know...Amazon jp. said that I should put in a request for the content to be converted from a paperback to a digital book.
ReplyDeleteIt's on the US site, but it isn't showing in search, which is SO weird. It shows as an option if you click on the print or audio versions.
DeleteI'm guessing the glitch maybe starts at Amazon US and filters down?
Anyway, this is so ridiculous. If you want to just email me, you can paypal me the amount and I'll send you the book.
When I search for The Mermaid Murders in kindle ebooks on amazon de or amazon com it is available.
ReplyDeletePerhaps all is good again.
I love the description: "YES, IT IS A KISSING BOOK. I admit it. But plenty of people die too!" Clearly, that's such a convincing line that I had to read the book, even if I never had heard about you. 😊
hahahahahha
DeleteOn amazon US the kindle edition shows up on Josh Lanyon Page priced $6.99, then I click on it, the kindle edition is not there, only the paperback and the audiobook.
ReplyDeleteI'm very annoyed at the wording of amazon jp., they talk as if its unavailability were a natural phenomenon that naturally happened and I'm protesting against Nature, like 'The world is all that is the case, so deal with it,' when I made it clear in my first mail that what should be available isn't unavailable and 'you guys are responsible for it', to which I got the oracle again 'It is unavailable.' They could've had enough grace to say 'We shall look into the matter.' In my third mail I said, 'It's your system glitch, and the publisher I've contacted agrees, so you guys should be fixing it.'
I'm getting fixated on the Mermaid Murders. Maybe it's because it's the only Western fairy tale I loved when I was a kid, not the Disney version, the original tragedy by Hans Andersen. Not that I think your story has a mermaid in it.
Just got the third reply from amazon jp. saying 'We shall look into the problem.' At last they acknowledged I wasn't complaining to them about the non-existence of unicorns, that it's a very real problem they should be addressing and they are responsible for determining the cause.
ReplyDeleteThey say, 'The investigation may take a week,' which I can take. I have other Lanyon books to occupy myself with in the meantime.
That was quite a battle! You'll have to let me know if you do ever manage to get the book!
Delete:-D
Finished the book yesterday. Can't believe it ended like that!! Are you trying to kill us!? I will wait patiently despite the torture, though. Great work!
ReplyDeleteYES AND NOW YOU KNOW MY SECRET. ;-)
DeleteI've just been contacted by amazon jp. Weirdly I was asked to pass this message to you. The problem is located on amazon US, the unavailability of the kindle edition starts there and affects other amazon sites, so the publisher should alert amazon US to this glitch and request they fix it.
ReplyDeleteI figured the root of the problem was on the US site because the book doesn't show in a general search...
DeleteWhat I cannot understand is, why can't the customer service of amazon jp simply ask their US counterpart, hey this book should be available on kindle but it's not, can you guys find out what the problem is?? Is that too much to ask? Why the hell did they ask ME to ask YOU to take the initiative. I've suggested more than once that they contact amazon US about this but it's almost like they don't want to. And when they said for the fourth time 'It's not available on amazon jp,' I snapped and fired back, 'Why the need to repeat the bloody obvious?' They are being deliberately obtuse or...
ReplyDeleteThe whole exchange has been very strange.

ReplyDeleteIt's all good now. The kindle edition of The Mermaid Murders is back up on amazon jp.. I've just downloaded all three volumes into my kindle. I've probably blown my chance to be invited to Vine Program after telling the amazon jp. customer service that Bangalore had far more intelligent support staff than Tokyo cuz they could actually communicate with human beings. But it's worth sacrificing my ambition for free cat food. Thank you very much for your trouble :D
ReplyDeleteAll's well that ends well! Thank you for bringing that to my attention! :-)
DeleteI'm in the process of binge-buying your books right now and I've just noticed...you may have inadvertently put geographical restrictions on the kindle edition of The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks as well. Not available in digital form in Japan and I cannot see the kindle edition on the amazon US, at least not from my end. Accounts not set to the US don't pick up geographically restricted e-books. My account is set to Japan and it doesn't show the digital content of this particular book.
ReplyDeleteThe same thing with Winter Kill. This looks geographically restricted, too.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I think I know what happened. Amazon sent me one of their nastygrams when another vendor held a sale and my books were included. So I pulled the titles in those territories. I'm sure the sales are long over, so I'll allow the titles back into those territories.
DeleteThank you!! I really appreciate your swift replies to my queries and requests.
ReplyDeleteI might've performed the thing I can't translate into English off the top of my head for future Lanyon fans in those excluded territories. Something to to do with Buddhist philosophy of virtuous acts not meant to be appreciated by other people and forever hidden from the world including myself and which Heaven alone bears witness to. And I'm committing a logical fallacy by smugly talking about it.
Anyway I can't wait to get my hands on them.
