You know, I really like #4. It has a nice rugged, well-balanced feel to it and I love the playful way the artist used the title quite literally. It's simple and it works. I also like the fact that there are two masculine, classic shot glasses and that those glasses are touching each other. ;-) Very nice indeed.
ReplyDeleteDear Josh,
ReplyDeleteMy choice for "A Shot in the Dark": #4
Yours, J.
9 or 10. They are "noir" and give a hint of the place and period, which I think is important. 8 is beautiful.
ReplyDeletePS - these were my Catcha code words. Very appropriate! - yorkiss value
ReplyDeleteI like #1
ReplyDeleteNo 4 & 5
ReplyDelete#9, best representation of place and time for (again I agree with Helena, it seems we have a similar taste),

Oh wait, because your This Rough Magic and Ill Met by Moonlight covers have that twirling smoke/mist/fog thing going on, #2 and #6 would work well, too.
ReplyDeleteAnd I really like #9, too. Oh boy... I definitely don't envy you Josh, because you are the one who has to make the final decision! ;-)
ReplyDeleteNumber # 7
ReplyDeleteAgain very hard to decide...I'll go with #2, then #9 & #7
ReplyDelete#4 - fun yet rugged, playful yet serious too. Next would be #9 and then #12.
ReplyDeleteDepending on what the "shot" in the title is... #4 or #11. :-)
ReplyDeleteI like the sharp black-white-contrast in #11 and that there is non of the distracting background or banners like in the other versions of this cover.
Hello! Number # 7. Thanks, Bye
ReplyDeleteI was going to say #2 or #4, but then I took a closer look at #6 and I like it better than 2, it's a little softer more of an ethereal look to it, just more appeal to me. Good luck deciding. There are some really good choices to pick from.
ReplyDeleteJosh, for this one my choice is #6. It is less glaring than its twin, #2. The shots glasses are a good composition, but the background color palette feels washed out and there is no sense of place or danger like with #6.
ReplyDeleteThis is very difficult. I can understand why you chose to allow a vote. You didn't want to choose. All these covers are terrific!
ReplyDeleteI love #6 for that foggy SF feel.
So, #6 it is.
This is tough - they're all so different. But if I had to pick one - #12.
ReplyDelete#4 is the best one so far
ReplyDeleteI love #6
ReplyDeleteMy vote is for the number 7
ReplyDeleteI really like #5
ReplyDeleteI'm leaning toward #4, myself :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a difficult choice, I'm glad I don't have to make the final decision!
ReplyDeleteI love #4 but maybe it's a little too soft, I like #5 and #9 too :)

ReplyDelete4 or 9. Some nice art, but I'm not sure any of these fit the story very well...
ReplyDelete#9
ReplyDeletei like the cleanness of #11 but i also like the cool effect of #5.
ReplyDelete#5 really says it all, I think. :)

#1 #2 #3 #6 #8 just read "Shot In The Dark"... without the article "A".
ReplyDeleteI assume the correct title is "A Shot In The Dark", right?
Also from previous editions of the This Rough Magic novella I've always read the series title *with* the initial article.

ReplyDeleteHola, buenas noches. Me decido por el numero. # 7.
ReplyDeleteBesossssssss.
#12 totally represents. Too bad the artist put so much smoke in front of cancer man though. Makes you want to gasp for fresh air just looking at it. # 9 is okay too.
