So. I was thinking last week about various things -- the fact that I usually do something nice for readers this time of year, the fact that I need to do some promo, and the fact that I really really REALLY need to start writing again -- and an idea occurred to me that sort of kills two -- three -- birds with one ink bottle.
Christmas codas.
I've come up with the idea of doing little codas -- maybe just a few sentences or maybe a whole scene (depending on my mood) for my various stories. The codas will be set on or close to Christmas. Maybe they'll pick up where the story ended or maybe they'll pick up a few Christmases into the future. We shall see.
I'll do one every few days starting Monday, December 3rd and they'll run through the end of the month. I'll post them here on this blog. There's nothing to buy and nothing required of you -- it's a writing exercise for me, so some of these could be pretty rough. Hopefully it's fun for both of us.
And perhaps there will be a few fun surprises along the way, but basically that's my plan for this blog in December.
Happy Holidays!
Sounds great! Can we make requests? ;)
ReplyDelete*cough*DarkFarewell*cough*
You can certainly make them. I suspect you'll think of ones I didn't *cough*DarkFarewell*cough which could work quite well! ;-)
DeleteWhat a great idea. If you do take suggestions. I would one for Colin.
ReplyDeleteDuly noted. Hmm...I wonder what Christmas celebrations would be like there...?
DeleteHow exciting! I'd really love to see a sequel to Out of the Blue and see if they can manage to be together after the war.
ReplyDeleteOut of the Blue is on the list! Woohoo!
Deletei'll love you forever if you're doing Out of the Blue!
DeleteMust check to see if elves have any blue paint left...
DeleteThat's the perfect countdown to Chrstmas for me, thank you!
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure!
DeleteAwesome Thank you so much this sounds like fun. Plus its a way for me to maybe meet some of your people in stories I have not yet read.
ReplyDeleteTrue. Which reminds me not to give too much away!
DeleteWhat a wonderful idea! I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI had to come up with something. You guys are so hard to buy for! ;-P
DeleteDoes this mean I'm not getting the Maserati?
DeleteStill looking for one to match your eyes!!
DeleteThanks, Josh! I'm sure this will brighten a lot folks' Monday.
ReplyDeleteI hope so! I shall do my best.
DeleteYAY for ficlets, a very nice advent gift, thank you.
ReplyDeleteWill XOXO files attempt to debunk the fat-man in red?
Any chance of a little Perry and Nick?
Meep (who for some reason is not verifyable!)
Well, we shall see what Santa brings first.
DeleteGreat, thank you very much! I love Christmas presents! ;-)
ReplyDeleteAntonella
Ho Ho Ho! :-D
DeleteI love this idea. May I request (or even beg) for Tim and Luke.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get as much enjoyment as you are going to give us. :-)
Oh! I better see if the elves have any paint and glue left. ;-D
DeleteThank you for this lovely Christmas present, Josh!
ReplyDeleteIs there any chance that Swift and Max would be on the list too? I miss Swift terribly...
Hugs from another not-verifyable fan,
Johanna :)
Well you've all been such GOOD little girls and boys this year.
DeleteI'm really looking forward to these! Good luck with them. How about Fair Game? Please?
ReplyDeleteCheryl
Boy, I really did write a lot of stories, didn't I? :-D
DeleteThank you, thank you, thank you!!! These will be little sparkly points of happiness during a dark and dreary month. And YAY!!! to my favorite Colin being on the list.
ReplyDeleteI hope so! I hope they are something lovely to look forward to. I do love writing Christmas stories, so this is the next best thing.
DeleteYayness!!! What a lovely gift. I read this on my phone in the middle of the outdoor Christmas decor section of my local nursery, complete with the smell of fresh pine and cedar surrounding me - Yes, I stop almost everything and look when a Josh message appears ;-) - I think I really am in the Christmas spirit now. Hmmm, would love to visit Valentine and Aleister, whatever their equivalent of Christmas might be!
ReplyDeleteAh. I shall check with the elves. ;-)
DeleteMy roommate would kill for a little something from Adrien and Jake.
ReplyDeleteActually, I would, too. ;)
I'm afraid I will be lynched if I don't come up with something for Adrien and Jake. And Christmas lynchings are so troubling. :-D
DeleteWhat a fabulous idea, and a great way to get back into the groove of writing.
ReplyDeleteWell, if you're taking requests... *g* Kit and JX?
Now to make myself a note to check this blog regularly!
There's nothing like forcing oneself to action. :-) I hope it doesn't backfire! Or it will be lumps of coal for me on the big day!
DeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteAnd Keeping on the Christmas spirit, what about Sedgewick and James?
Ah. A Christmas coda for a Christmas story!
DeleteKit and JX, pretty please! <3
ReplyDelete;-D
DeleteI'll check with the elves.
Thank you, Josh! Do you think you could manage to let us know how Will and Taylor are doing this Christmas? :)
ReplyDeleteWelllll, I expect Will and Taylor are *probably* a given. No promises of course, but...
DeleteSlightly off topic but I'm currently relistening to Fair Game audio book. Any chance there might be a sequel someday? *hopeful puppy eyes*
DeleteThanks again for the gifts of glimpses into your beloved characters for Christmas!
There is indeed a sequel planned, Tam. Probably 2014. It's already outlined!
DeleteThank you for the lovely surprise. I really look forward to opening these presents!
ReplyDeleteI tried to get one in everyone's size and color! ;-D
DeleteA grown up advent calendar! Looking forward to it, Kit and JX, especially! Great idea!
ReplyDeleteThat's it exactly. My version of an advent calendar. Happy Holidays to you!
DeleteI wonder how Sedgwick and James would spend their Christmas at Sedge's hometown... *HINTS!* ;-)
ReplyDeleteMaking a list and checking it twice...
DeleteIt'd make me very happy if I knew how Dan and Sean spend their Christmas ;)
ReplyDeleteOh you think they're still together?
DeleteHA! Kidding. I'm a kidder.
SUCH the kidder
DeleteWe all need a hobby.
DeleteMine is driving others insane. ;-P
Matt and Nathan? Pretty please? :-) (Honestly, I mentally squealed when you impliedly promised an Adrien and Jake update, so I feel greedy asking you for this! But hey, I have to try!)
ReplyDeleteThanks for promising us a month of fan service. That is ridiculously generous! :-)
Well, readers were awfully patient with what turned out to be a kind of a long break. ;-)
DeleteWell, Josh, since it seems you're taking requests, I'd like to put in my bid for something from the 'I Spy' guys, Mark and Stephen, my favorites after Adrien and Jake. But whatever you create along the way I'm sure it will be delightful. And a great accompaniment to the London Advent Calendar that is currently on my Desktop. :)
ReplyDeleteYou might just get more than you bargained for with Mark and Stephen. ;-D We shall see what we shall see.
DeleteThanks so much Josh! Brings a whole new meaning to making the Yuletide Gay. Can't wait to see what you have in store for us.
ReplyDeleteI'll try to keep the surprises coming!
DeleteThanks for the wonderful present!I'm hoping for Sean and Stoney.
ReplyDeleteOw! A reindeer just stepped on my foot! ;-D
DeleteHaving just reread The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks, I would love an update on Nick and Perry.
ReplyDeleteJD Ruskin
;-) First up as a matter of fact. ;-)
DeleteHi Josh! Thanks for this - it's such a wonderful Christmas present.
ReplyDeleteIf you're still taking suggestions, and since I just listened to the audiobook (which I LOVED), could we maybe see what Septimus and Colin are up to?
Either way, thanks for all that you do for your fans.
Michelle
Look me deep into Santa's bag...
DeleteAwesome idea. And I really enjoyed the first installment. Sweet the way that first sip of sugary coffee is in the morning.
ReplyDeleteThanks, JB. So far they're fun to do. Not sure if I'll still feel that way ten days from now. ;-)
DeleteFun, and a nice gift that fits everyone!
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to read more from Rhys & Sam....
Rdafan7
What a great way to celebrate the holidays! You are too kind to your fans ;)
ReplyDelete-Totho
Great gifts. Of course I would love read Adrien and Jake *hehehe*. But either way, I will be waiting for the codas because I looooove your stories and can't wait for next year when you're finally back on track
ReplyDeleteAMI
What a perfect Advent calendar...thanks, Josh!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're all enjoying these!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this awesome project! I just can't wait for Adrien and Jake, because they're my favourite fictional gay couple ever and sometimes I want to cry from how much I miss them, but I'm looking forward everyone else as well!
ReplyDeleteSimona
Thank God. Josh is handing out Christmas gifts after all. ::smiling::
ReplyDeleteCan you take one more request?? And by way of making that request of tell you a joke.
ReplyDelete"Two Irish cops walk into a bar..."
Rick and Keir please! I think my very favorite of your shorts.
I love all of the Codas so far! Brilliant. Would love to see mike and peter from Dont look back. Thats my favourite book from you!Or something from jacob and ford because their story is just so short and adorable!!
ReplyDeletelil
So excited about these Christmas codas (^O^)/ Thank you!!! Have really been enjoying them so far - can't wait to keep reading them and see which story is next!
ReplyDeleteI'm surprising myself with some of these choices! :-)
ReplyDeleteSo pleased to see that my little gifties are being enjoyed.
I have to say this is the only acceptable alternative to a chocolate-filled Advent calendar... ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnd so much better for the immune system!
Deleteoh, and btw... what about an update on Christmas in Texas? it's such a dangerous time, with all those wayward reindeers and mexican drug dealers running amok... I'm worried about Web and Mitch!
ReplyDelete:-D
Delete*looks sheepish*
ReplyDeleteI know I'm a little late to the party but could you please check with the elves if they have an update about Finn and Con? ;) Their story is one of my favorite comfort reads.
