Advent Calendar - Day 15

This one's for my dad.

He had a really beautiful tenor-baritone singing voice. A kind of Bing Crosby lite. His love of music, of singing, particularly of Americanized Irish and Scottish songs was a huge reason of how my sisters and I ended up becoming a Celtic folk band and recording 7 (8?) albums back in the day.

Anyway. On Thanksgiving night as everyone was saying goodbye and heading out, "I'll Be Home for Christmas" came on Pandora. For a minute it was like my dad was standing there with us.

  1. What a wonderful memory and beautiful legacy. My dad’s favorite singer was Bing. He said it was because he made every note sound so effortless. Now whenever I hear him I will think of your dad too. <3

  3. Sad, but beautiful. This song always makes me homesick.

  4. Love listening to Bing!
My mom really loved Elvis, she had all the albums, of course, and the Christmas album was played multiple times every year. So yeah, I think it her whenever I head Elvis. Especially Blue Christmas.

  5. I choose to believe that your dad was there and that it was his way of telling you.
It's weird... I never heard my dad sing or being especially fond of music. I only discovered at the very end that he used to be in a band playing the guitar when he was young and that a part of him had always missed it... Maybe that's why he was not fond of music...
