Advent Calendar Day 23

So. Close.

Can you smell that tinsel in the air? Ah, the taste of mistletoe!

Today for your moment of Christmas Zen I'm sharing a favorite Christmas song with you. This comes from the So This is Christmas playlist.

It's the Christmas song--and the version--that reminds me most of Adrien English. Who knows why? Even I'm not exactly sure.

And for those who would like the whole playlist:

Please Come Home for Christmas - the Eagles
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen - Sarah McLachlan and the Barenaked Ladies
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - Judy Garland
Hallelujah - Rufus Wainwright
The Coldest Night of the Year - She and Him
I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm - Dean Martin
What are You Doing New Year's Eve - Ella Fitzgerald
My Dear Acquaintance - Peggy Lee
Auld Lang Syne - Celtic Woman

  1. So lovely!! I'm not so keen on Christmas songs because here in Spain, all the carols are a bit weird... or at least they sound weird to me, sometimes the lyrics are crazy ^__^Û, but this song is really beautiful. Thank your for sharing this and the playlist with us!

  2. I'm with El Gato sobre el tejado... Spanish Christmas songs sound weird. I've always preferred the Englihs ones. Thank you for sharing your playlist with us, Josh!

  3. A delightful playlist, Josh. My favorite is Please Be Home for Christmas. I've spent extra time in the grocery store when that one starts playing. :) Also, your Christmas ornament picture is gorgeous. Thank you.

  4. My favorite Christmas carol. I understand why it makes you think of Adrien. So melancholy but hopeful.

  5. This song always triggered strong emotion in me as well. It was written by a man, Hugh Martin, longing for the childhood home he had to leave. He had to change the lyrics several times to make it, 'less depressing,'so Garland would sing it in the movie, Meet Me In St. Louis.

It makes me wonder if Adrien and Jake sensed home, and how they yearned to return to each other, the same way as the writer yearned to return to his home.

Merry Christmas, Josh. Loved the playlist. :)

  6. Recently another favorite author, in her unique style, called "Please Be Home for Christmas" the Eagles' Christmas plea bargain. It made me laugh, and now I think of it that way. :) Love the playlist - some great music there. Have *yourself* a merry little Christmas!

  7. Dozing in a comfy chair near a fireplace, surrounded by books and this song softly playing to the accompaniment of a crackling fire, a lovely bowl of cream on the side table...
Ah, such a wonderful Christmas vision.

  8. Oh yes, this is such a beautiful Christmas song. We've been listening to some nostalgic Christmas music today (also today, LOL) but when we started cleaning up the house I switched to The Dark Tide audio book. Cleaning the toilets have never been as fun and as pleasurable as when listening to the unforgettable chapter 17 today. :-D I think a big, warm "Thank you , Josh!" is in order. :-)

  10. Thank you for the playlist and Judy Garland's rendition of "Have yourself a very merry Christmas." I love Renaissance Christmas and sacred music. I need to unearth the CDs before Christmas.

Wishing you and yours a very merry Christmas and new year surrounded by friends and loved ones.

  13. Love The Eagles. Please Come Home For Christmas is one of my favourite "modern" Christmas songs and is on EVERY Christmas playlist I make. Other songs come and go, but this is constant.

  14. Such a classic! ANd very sweet yet a bit melancholy- definitely can see how it speaks of poor Adrien during his Christmases without Jake. :(
